SOLO SKILLS: SPIRIT MOVES STYLING

15 Classes |  55 minutes

The Spirit Moves: A History of Black Social Dance on Film is a documentary chronicling the evolution of African-American social dance throughout the 20th century and provides some of the very limited video footage of blues dance.  This course is inspired by the dancing of two dancers featured in the documentary, Sandra Gibson and James Berry, whose movement is full of character, quirkiness, rhythm and individuality. View the clip of them dancing in the ‘Resources’ section of this course.

Learn a range of new moves plus new ways to style moves you already know.  Remember, blues is a vernacular dance and there’s no ‘one way’ or ‘right way’ of doing a move. It’s all about individuality, experimentation, and adding your own unique attitude. Sandra Gibson and James Berry are great examples of this… I hope you find their dancing as inspiring as we do!
