ESSENTIAL SKILLS: EXPLORING AXES
11 Classes | 70 minutes
In dance, the term “axis” refers to an imaginary vertical line that runs through the centre of your body, usually extending from the top of your head down to your feet. This line represents the point around which your body maintains balance and alignment. Weight shifts and axis shifts are fundamental concepts in partner dancing, crucial for maintaining balance, coordination, and fluidity in movements. Understanding and mastering weight and axis shifts allows us to execute movements with precision, respond effectively to our partner’s lead or follow, and creates a seamless connection between the two bodies.
Focusing on small, seemingly simple details, this course will help you develop your leading and following skills. You will tune into each others weight and axis shifts with more care and consideration with the aim of improving the clarity of your communication.
